Futuba often will keep distant from boys saying they are rude and tough. She had a liking to a guy in class called Kou. But when Kou left it surprised her, she started to change ands everyone saw the change so they started hating on her. 

When Futuba entered Highschool she was determinded to be favoured by the class so what happened in middle school wouldn't repeat.

Kou was well liked in middle school and he liked Futaba but he all of a sudden disappered. His parents divorced and he is now currently attending Futaba's high school. Kou was spotted by Futaba and she figured out that he is "Tanaka-kun". He acts cold to Futaba but he ends up showing is nice side.

 Ao Haru Ride is a great anime and it was great to watch Futuba and Kou's romance grow. It's like seeing your own life you grow and grow. The memories from middle school that was brought to high school. You think you will never meet again hut you do. Ao Haru Ride is really amazing.
